interact brand design studio
(the lounge area of the office complete with vintage ads)
interact is a strategic brand design studio that works to solve brand challenges with effective design by driving consumer understanding through data and by changing how brands interact with culture. their roster of clients includes local weather sports drink, widmer brothers craft brew, boxer six tailored cannibis, stem ciders, nestle rallies, nestle hot pockets and country archer jerky among others. when they moved from a large loft into a more intimate space in downtown boulder we wanted to be very thoughtful about how to best design the rooms to allow their team to be able to work creatively and effectively for their clients.

* whenever friends are planning a trip to amsterdam they always reach out for my favorite spots… i have a list of my favorites but the one place i insist they CANNOT MISS is pompadour… it is the loveliest place in the world! x0x
i moved to amsterdam in august, but you wouldn’t have known it was summer because of all the rain. there is the general misting present most days that you can still walk around in and then there are the serious downpours where you need to go inside. one of my earliest rain-evading discoveries was the chocolate shop, pompadour. this “gezellig” (dutch word for cozy, but meaning so much more) patisserie was located just around the corner from my apartment. it was almost a holy place for me. the interior is beautiful…rich, intricate, rose-colored wallpaper with warm, carved wooden moldings cut for the town hall of mortsel in 1895 and imported and repurposed, striking light fixtures evoking wild flowers or some kind of nature and inviting little marble cafe tables. there was just about no trouble that couldn’t be soothed away by having a cup of mint tea at pompadour. the tea was served in a large, clear glass of hot water with a couple of fresh mint stalks tucked in, accompanied by a delicious almond cake on the side. and i haven’t even gotten to the gorgeous chocolates and little cakes that looked like works of art.

best of houzz service award 2021!!!*!*!*!
2020 was a bananas year that i think we are all still recovering from… my business came to a standstill last spring and it really made me question whether this was a sustainable line of work for me. thankfully, everything has picked back up again (i think a lot of people began to re-evaluate their homes after being stuck in them for months on end!) and i am finally feeling super optimistic about what’s down the road. so i am especially GRATEFUL for this year’s “best of houzz service" award (considering i wasn’t performing nearly as much service as in a typical year) and all of my wonderful clients and colleagues who make this adventure possible! THANK YOU! x0x0xx

“too often the process is bogged down…by overthink, immovable objects, nervous nellies, politics, geographic fiefdoms, bad catering and/or too much time and resources to be productive. we provide a new way of working which recognizes that these obstacles shouldn’t exist anymore. the goal is to put the right talent around the table at the right time to accelerate brand momentum via rapid marketing prototyping (aka the 'hack'). gone are the days of lengthy processes, group think and all of the things that get in the way of brand momentum.”

Read Moreerica green's fiber art
i first discovered erica green’s work at her “passages” show at the AKA gallery in boulder last year. the viewer was invited to walk between the “walls” of knotted fibers green created that changed from portions so thick with yarn you could not see through them to sparser lengths that allowed you to peek into the next turn. it was an interactive installation meant to engage the viewer both in traveling along the maze-like route and by contributing knots or braids or tears in the fibers at the end of the journey, thereby participating in the art piece and sharing in a collective experience.

i LOVE to get prizes… i think this stems from the fact that i wasn’t a sporty kid and didn’t participate in activities that got rewarded with trophies or medals. i may have gotten a couple of “participation” ribbons the summer i was nine and did swim team, but i never placed. so i am thrilled and GRATEFUL to receive this service award again from houzz. i DO wish they would send me a big, fancy ribbon with my name on it or some kind of statue, but an email notice is nice as well. x0x

i am one quarter german and three quarters mish mosh northern european. to my knowledge, (although i’ve never used ancestry.com) i do not have a speck of french blood in me. this has always seemed grossly unfair as i spent all four and a half years of college studying french… even spending one semester in paris at the sorbonne in an intensive grammar program and a couple of summers working for french-speaking families as an au-pair. to top it off, i never even had a french boyfriend.

recently, hank had to get his THIRD collar. his neck just keeps getting bigger and bigger. i certainly didn’t expect him to have a swan neck like audrey hepburn… he IS a bulldog after all, but i have been surprised by his rapid growth. he also now weighs in at TWENTY-SEVEN pounds… more than half the weight of my daughter. i think his bones must be made of steel. while i am grateful for his sturdiness and good health (except when he eats chapsticks) his many milestones in such a short period have left me reeling. only two months ago, i was working at the kitchen counter with hank at my feet and all of a sudden he was just GONE. i looked all around the room and was wondering if he’d somehow left when i heard pattering overhead. somehow he’d managed to go up the stairs all by himself. until that point, we’d been carrying him up and down. it reminded me of when my son was about four months old and i left him in the middle of the room on a blanket and went to the bathroom. he was also gone when i came back. i finally found him in a corner and realized that he had learned to roll over… and over and over. unfortunately, he could only go in one direction so he was a bit stuck.
